Tempest
Following on his success with Missile Command, Dave Theurer set his sights on using improvements in vector graphics technology to create this mind-bending tube shooter – based on nightmares he was having of monsters crawling out from a hole in the ground.
Tempest proved to be an even bigger success than Missile Command, becoming Atari’s best selling arcade cabinet at the time. The multi-colored vector graphics dazzled arcade fans of the time, with players drawing crowds eager to check out this groundbreaking achievement in video game history.
Tempest has been a crowning success and the franchise still sees new releases to this day, most notably with Tempest 4000.
