Centipede (Recharged)
Relive one of the most commercially successful coin-op games of all time.
Centipede hit the arcades in 1981 and was an immediate hit, leading to numerous home versions and sequels. Battle the game’s titular villain as it slithers its way down the screen towards the player-controlled Bug Blaster, not stopping until each and every segment of the digital arthropod is completely destroyed. The numerous mushroom obstacles that dot the game board can alter its path or block your shots so use them strategically. As you survive wave after wave, new enemies are introduced and the challenges are increased.
Centipede was a milestone in videogaming, being one of the first to feature a female lead designer. The debate as to whether this was the reason Centipede being amongst the most popular games for female players may be a matter of debate but its importance to video gaming history is assured.
